Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club Lost by 120 Runs.

Match report A long haul trip for some saw a depleated Boreham team take on Basildon & Pitsea 2s at the Mopsies. Losing the toss rather suprisingly we were put into the field. Opening the bowling were Ken Greenaway and Jafar Gamat. The first wicket fell with the score on 4 when Jafar bowled the BP number two batsman. This was the only wicket from the opening 10 overs with the score on 25-1.

Next up were Ellis Oxlade and Kia Cheif to try their hand. Ellis with the first ball of his spell had the opening batsman dropped but got eventual reward with the wicket of the BP number 3 batsman who was canght by Mark Locketttt, this was also his first wicket for the club. 43-2.

Kia in the meantime kept the runs down at the other end but was not sucessful as a wicket taker. So after the opening 20 overs BP were on 102-2.

Jamie James Baines and Mark Lockett were the final two bowlers and what a mark they made. Jamie taking the next three wickets to reduce BP from 102-2 to 142-5. The most important wicket though was for Jamie as he got the opener caught by Stuart Careless on 82 with an exquisit catch while sweeping the leg side boundary.

Wickets started to tumble reguarly with Mark taking the next two with only 22 runs being scored. BP were now wobbling after looking in a comanding position on 102-2 to being in trouble at 164-7.

The last three wickets fell with no runs scored. Mark picked up the last of his three but the headlines go to Jamie as he got two wickets thus meaning he picked up his first ever 5fer haul. BP were bowled out for 182. Jamie ended on 9.5-2-35-5 and Mark on 10-2-41-3 respectively.

We knew batting would behard with such a depleted team but surely 182 would be an easy target. How wrong could we have been.

Things got of to a terrible start after being judged to have been LBW on 10 with Mark to be bowled shortly afterwards. 27-2

The next three wickets of: Kia, Toby Oxlade and Jamie fell in quick sucession for a further six runs (all bowled). 35-5

There was a spirited whacking of the ball from Jafar who picked up 18 from 6 deliveries to move the score on to 54-6 but once he had gone the last five wickets fell for just a further eight runs as we were steam rollered with a final score being 62-10.

A great effort in the field by the whole team but with weeks to come with key players hopefully back we can put this one behind us with only a handful of points needed for safety, once the magic 200 points is done we can push on and maybe just maybe challenge for the top two spots as 3/4 of our final games feature three of the top four teams in the league.
