Galleywood III v Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 17 Jun 2017 at 13:00
Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club Lost by 97 Runs.

Match report On a very very hot day our hardy 2s travelled the short distance to Margaretting cricket club where Galleywood III’s have made a home. Trevor did the toss and lost for the 4th time in 7 matches and we were put in the field.

Starting with 10 men as Cookie was late due to work Ken Greenaway and Michael Rayner opened the bowling and it was Ken who made an early break through by getting the GCC skipper out for 0 caught by Owen Cooper. Ken then gained his 2nd wicket 6 overs later of S.Eaton on 22 after he was caught behind by Owen Mosse. This left GCC on 29-2.

Cookie had by then showed up. The next over it was Michael’s turn to get young Charlie Murray out this time caught by Paul Morris on 2. So GCC were on 34-4 and we were back and confident that we could turn them over for a lowish score. Ken and Michael finished there spells with figures of 9-4-21-3 & 9-2-26-1 respectively.

Unfortunately there number 5 batsman had other ideas as he plundered what runs he could get as he watched the wickets fall around him. A fifth wicket partnership of 23 moved the score along for GCC until D. Cockrell was ran out by Ken on 13 and soon after Trevor gained two quick fire wicket with E. Felton and S. Adams falling on 0 & 1. (72-7)

G. Boxer or batsman number 5 was closing in on a very unlikely 50 and an 8th wicket partnership of 50 ensured that he got it. But there was still late drama as both Alex and Trevor finished there spells it was left to Mike Bruder and Owen Cooper to clear the remaining 3 wickets, this never happened but Mike did get Boxer out thus cutting off the runs. GCC innings finished on 130-8, disappointing that we didn’t get them all out.

130 looked to be an ideal target with the batting line up we had but as this is Boreham its never that easy. It was a massive struggle, not going to go into detail but it went like this:

3-1, 4-2, 6-3, 12-4, 13-5, 14-6, 14-7.…….

Owen Mosse and Kevin Ling battled away for an 8th wicket partnership of 18 but it was too little too late. 32-8, 33-9 & 33-10. That was it. 33 all out in what was a bloodbath, The GCC youngsters ripped us apart in 16 overs. One of those days in the game we all love. But the St Johns lost too in much the same fashion so weirdly we reduced the gap from 6 points to 3.

Broomfield II’s next week…
