Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club 2nd XI v Bentley IV on Sat 03 Jun 2017 at 13:00
Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club Won by 10 Runs.
Match report
Now this is more of a rundown than a report as I was away on an expedition to Billericay for the first team. Well here goes. Trevor lost the toss and the twos were put into bat. They made a good start but Ken Greenaway was caught early on 7 and Stuart Hills scored 0 to leave Boreham on 37-2.
Next in was Will Reed with a spirited 27 ball 20 to support Trevor towards his 50 but William was bowled by Hollington. (69-3) This is where the information becomes sketchy. Carl Chatters was next up with a good 16 runs. Trevor was out on 53 but the story of Boreham’s innings was Michael Rayners 65 not out with 44 runs coming in boundaries. Kai Creswell and Matt Hills came and went scoring 4 between them and finally Jamie Baines getting an unbeaten 9 runs brought up the close of the Boreham innings on 196-7. Alex Cook was the unlucky number 10 batsman who did not bat. Now I say number 10 because there was no number 11 due to Jon Riches no showing.
Alex Cook and Ken Greenaway opened the bowling and reduced Bentley down to 20-3. The next wicket did not fall until the 31st over with Shaun Darby hitting a solid 67 batting with his boy until Carl amazingly had the nouse to stump him off TM. The younger Darby went on to make 23 not out with the wickets falling around him. Bentley needed 17 from the last over but only gained 4. A remarkable victory by 10 runs with the twos fielding with 10 men.
The final bowling figures were as tight as usual but with Ken picking up an injury and maybe becoming a doubt next week he could only bowl 6 overs.
Next week the twos host the bottom club Rayleigh VI’s.
