Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club Lost by 160 Runs.
Match report
Last Saturday of Season Brings Out Best in Boreham
Boreham CC produced their best combined displays of the season on Saturday with personal bests, bowling records, outstanding batting but sadly no wins, but we didn’t really mind as it’s the best we’ve played all year.
The firsts lost by 30 runs to Old Chelmsfordians, with two superb individual performances throwing a real spanner in the works of champagne moment of the season voting. Firstly with Boreham bowling first, Ed Lambert Clarke took 5 wickets for 53 runs for his best figures of the year (10-1-53-5) as OC’s posted 263. Mike Bruder also took two wickets (5-0-29-2) while young Ryan Davies also got in on the act with one wicket (his 14th of the year). Debutant Dave Stanton taking the catch off of Davies’ bowling. Ken Greenaway bowled his usual excellent spell but wasn’t in the wickets (though did everything but!) (10-1-43-0).
In the run chase it was the batting performance of the season by Liam Watts, who posted his second century in successive weeks, with an inspiring 156 not out from just 113 balls. Mike Bruder made 18, and Stanton 17 on his debut and the Bees finished just 30 runs off the OC’s target. Greenaway with his amazing hair, posted 16 not out.
The seconds, led by debut captain Carl Chatters, lost to Rankins III, though a season’s best batting performance included Owen Mosse and Micky Rayner’s first half centuries for the club as they chased 331. Mosse in his first season with Boreham posted 50 and Rayner who first played for Boreham in 2002 posted 54 not out from 34 balls for his best ever score. Kevin Ling in his season debut posted 16. Rankins batted first and it was tough going for the Bees, though they succeeded in taking six wickets, including two for captain Chatters.
A late night celebration at the club followed and it was a great way to end a long, but spirited season!
