Match report On a muggy, hot and sunny Saturday, the bees made a short trip to Chignal's picturesque ground. The weather forecast did not look good with there being thunderstorms looming through out the day. Dave Lockhart-Hawkins wandered out to the wicket with the Chignal skipper and won the toss and elected to bat first.

Opening for the Bee's were Mike Bruder and Dave himself. Mike was first to go as he was bowled by Richard Pooley on 4. Boreham 7-1.

Dave Lockhart-Hawkins at the other end by the time Mike was out had picked up an injury by breaking his little finger when the second ball be faced hit it. This was not the worst thing to happen and I shall get to that shortly.

Stuie Careless for today's match had given up doing the book and was umpiring instead. He racked up 14 overs worth.

Sammy Brock had came in and replaced Mike and with some advice from Stuie he was going great guns and staying in. Sammy was doing well until he was caught and mid wicket by Harry Shah of the bowling of Richard Pooley again. Sammy had some great scoring shots and notched up 14 runs in a 27 run partnership with Dave. Jack Lindsell replaced Sammy. Boreham 34-2.

An over passed with not much happening but the it was Dave's turn to get out. It was not the way any one would want to be out and was uncomfortable to watch. Richard Pooley yet again blazed a ball at Dave, the ball bit the bat, hit Dave clean on the bonce just above the right eye and knock him into a daze and then to add insult to injury he was caught by M.Porter in the slips. Boreham 35-3.

Dave was helped off the pitch by a number of players as panic ensured through the Boreham team at the concern on Dave's health.

Boreham went into defensive mode now as there was no one padded up. Dave's replacement was Jim Wicks. Jim and Jack then put on a defensive show as nobody was getting there pads on they needed to prolong the Bee's innings and succeeded until Jim got bowled by Sean Hodgson. Their partnership of 14 was the second biggest of the game for the bee's. Boreham 49-4.

Jack was out an over later as he was bowled swinging at a straight one from Richard Pooley on 8. The Bee's were now rocking. Boreham 49-5.

The next four wickets fell in quick succession and for only 5 runs. Chris Empson caught at stupidly close point, Jon Riches not moving his feet and being out plum LBW, Reida Ban getting bowled and Lionel Jacobson who looked almost comfortable at defending got caught behind. Only Stuie Careless gave some resistance scoring 1 not out and the four before mentioned batsman all getting ducks.

The Bee's were finally all out for 54 in 19.4 overs. Chignal's Richard Pooley was the star for the home team by taking 7-29 of 9.4 overs. the Bee's did not disappoint and they thought hard while batting and there is some good signs for the team too.

Chignal only took 11.2 overs to score 55 without loss. Jack Lindsell and Jim Wicks shared the bowling duties with Jim's figures not looking too shabby and even better when he had not turned his arm over in nearly a season for the Bee's.

Jack (6-1-22-0) looked good if only there was more for Chignal to chase who knows what could have happened.

A special mention for Dave who against all odds fielded for the team with on hand and a huge headache to ensure we had at least one more body in the field.

Boreham went into the match full of banter and a good spirit for the match, it was always going to be hard with 10 men after the morning pull outs in the first team but as usual we battled down to the last ball.

MVP: Sammy Brock, great batting and top scorer, energetic keeping of the wicket, not afraid to launch himself around and loud if not optimistic LBW calling too.
