Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club 2nd XI v Canvey Island II on Sat 15 Jun 2013 at 13:30
Match was Abandoned Intermittent Rain
Match report
The day started of bright and sunny and as the players were warming up, and decapitating Kettley's legs there was a sense of optimism among the players. Coming into the match with 2 good batting performances and the addition of Kettley and home debuts for Singh and McCraney there was a sense of expectancy among the players. Even after Hepworth again lost the toss and was put into bat the talk among the payers was all about collecting that first win.
Kettley (41) and Love-Heart Hawkins (7) started well with 22 coming of the first 7 overs, with both players taking advantage of some loose bowling and punishing the bad balls. Then after a smashing 4 an enthusiastic Love-Heart played across the line, missed then heard the inevitable sound of bails breaking. The older Davies (8no) entered the fray and settled nicely with Kettley, who was opening up nicely, until the light rain turned heavy and forced the players to flee.
The weather quickly cleared and play resumed for a mammoth 7 balls before again the heavens descended and left everyone scampering of the field. With the weather not looking likely to clear soon an early tea was taken with players from both teams wanting to get back out there. After nearly an hours break from play the Skippers inspected the pitch and agreed to play on with the match being shortened to 25 overs each, but clearly the game was not meant to be played as only a further 8 balls could be played, but an entertaining 8 balls they were.
Kettley who had looked settled all game ‘hit out’, unfortunatley for him he decided to skip the hit part and just get out, charging down the wicket, missing, and allowing the keeper to gather and take the stumping. This ended a 43 partnership with the Older Davies who later said the Kettley was ‘pure class’, we already have work men expanding the doors to the club so Kettley can get his head through. With the weather turning Hepworth (6no) came to the crease for his 2 ball innings, with his second smashed for 4 over Mid-On, at which point the heavens opened again and the skippers shook hands.
Lots of positives from the game again- Kettley’s form is encouraging and he is certainly standing out there with the bat this season, the older Davies is making No 3 his own with another not out, the younger Davies umpiring for 15 overs in the rain (nothing to do with the drop from the previous week) and the general attitude of all the players and the willingness and want to play for Boreham.
