Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club Lost by 176 Runs.

Match report It was the hardest weekend of the season, with Boreham decimated by the V Festival, Essex's amazing run to the semi finals of the FL T20 competition and various holidays or work commitments the club had to scale back there cricketing activities for the weekend by forfeiting the second team match away to Canvey island and the first team only had 9 available players.

Therefore the second team lose 20 points and Canvey Island are awarded 26 points, this also meant that the second team were officially relegated after lasting one more week than the first team in their respective divisions.

Down to the first team match...
After seeing who was going to turn up and counting heads Ed did the toss and won, he elected to bowl first. Unfortuatly the Baddow opening pair were from another planet.

I wont go into to many details but there were 4 drops and Ryan Davies had good figures (8-0-39-0) and if Rob Hepworth had stopped after 6 overs (6-0-26-0) it would have been awesome but he bowled 2 more and ended up on 8-0-59-0).

Great Baddow ended up declaring on 262-0 of 32 overs. Harry Simmons 150 not out and Arran Olivelle 74 not out were the only batsman used. As Baddow declared Boreham are awarded full bowling points and also get the remaining overs Baddow did not use.

Boreham knowing they had 58 overs to chase down 262 and record victory started of with the worst start possible with Ed Lambert Clarke falling first ball of our innings caught behind by Arran Olivelle of Mick Millgate (1-0). Boreham 0-1.

Dave Neilson came in to accompany Rob Hepworth for the next 9 overs until Rob was bowled by Mick Milgate (2-14) on 16. Boreham 38-2.

Then came a collapse, Boreham went from 42-2 to 42-5 basically in 4 balls. Mike Martin firstly got Trigger caught on 19 with the last ball of his 5th over, then Mick Millgate took the wickets of Tony Martin on 4 and debutante Scott Neilson for a duck. Boreham were now rocked on 42-5.

With two new men the crease and I shall be honest here I was one of them im sure the rest of the team thought the game would be over very shortly indeed. But myself and Jon Riches stuck in there and put together a 6th wicket partnership of 43.

Stuie Careless got peppered with balls to the body but stayed there and settled into the game eventually being bowled by P.Norman (1-9) on 20 of 22 balls. Boreham 85-6.

Jon Riches was next to go just 2 balls later as he was bowled by the same bowler (P.Norman 2-9). The last pairing only got a run between them and when Ryan Davies was bowled by P.Norman for the final wicket Boreham were 86 all out.

Mick Millgate finished with figures of 11-1-42-4. P.Norman 3.5-1-10-3 and M.Martin 7-1-37-1 thus beating Boreham by 176 runs.

All credit to the 9 hardy souls who ventured out under the difficult circumstances but Boreham will bounce back next week as we will have returning players plus the late edition of an ex Boreham youngster returning to the club for nearly 3 seasons. More news soon.
