Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club 1st XI v Springfield III on Sat 08 Jun 2013 at 13:30
Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club Lost by 55 Runs.

Match report Boreham went into the match off the back of 5 defeats, this week the line up was slightly more settled with only a few changes. Ed Lambert-Clarke was welcomed back into the team and Adam Dale played his first game of the season.

The scene was set Ed wandered out to the middle with the Springfield skipper and promptly won the toss and elected to field first. Opening the bowling was the ever green Ken Greenaway from the road end anf Liam Watts from Ron’s end.

Things started slowly for Springfield as they lost there first wicket on 22. Ken Greenaway bowling lightning quick as usual and A.Blundell got caught by Pete Kettley on 7. Liam Watts was bowling tight until his last over of his spell of 6 was hit for 16.

Springfield were then reduced to 46-2 as Ken Greenaway bowled T.Shervill on 32. By this time Ed Lambert-Clarke had come on to replace Liam and then took Springfield’s 3rd wicket of the big hitting N.Kennedy at the second time of asking with Liam catching him on the boundary on 36. Springfield were now on 104-3.

Next to get in the wickets was Micky Rayner who has been bowling well the last few weeks. Springfield’s M.Cook was his first victim. The batsman was slogging everywhere but he had not contended with the new found catching ability of Stuie Careless. He was fielding at mid-off and had to sprint to mid on to take a running and stunning catch. Springfield 150-5.

Springfield now had a wobble and lost there next 2 wickets for only 5 runs. Micky Rayner claiming both of them, the first was an LBW shout against I.Vine (2) and then he clean bowled B.Geall (3). This reduced Springfield to 155-7.

Micky’s next scalp was the former Boreham player of Iestyn Powell. Iestyn was batting really well until he met Seb Slaughter hands as he was caught on 34. Springfield 190-8.

With Ed finishing his spell (1-54) this bought on Jamie Greenwood and he didn’t disappoint with 2 quick fire wickets towards the end of his spell. He claimed the wickets of A.Akthar (7) and A.Larcher (2) with Jamie finishing with figures of 2-43. Springfield 202-9.

Micky Rayner was now looking for his 5th wicket and he got it courtesy of Owen Mosse stumping Springfield’s last man D.Butt (0). Micky finished with figures of 5-38 and thus ending Springfield’s innings on 205 in the 45th over.

Boreham now were feeling good after a good performance in the field. Chasing 206 to win. Teas today were prepared by John and Denise Watts and they were good, nice selection of food too.

Opening the Boreham attack was Pete Kettley and Mike Bruder. Peter Kettley was first to go on 3 given out LBW then unfortunately after there was no repeat of Mikes amazing innings from last week as he was caught for 0. Boreham 7-2.

Adam Dale and Liam Watts had other ideas with a spirited partnership between them of 95, by far the best for the last two seasons. Adam playing his first match for about 9 months didn’t disappoint by scoring 31 and there was two massive sixes as well from him. Liam raced to 50 in only 33 balls, then slowed up and was eventually out caught on 54. Boreham 103-4.

Owen Mosse was next in but he only faced 3 balls and was out for 0, then ed was next to go on 2 as he was caught by Iestyn Powell much to his fathers delight. Boreham were now rocking on 111-6.

The new partnership of Jamie Greenwood and Micky Rayner then tried to steady the ship but that ended when Jamie was bowled on 8. Boreham 119-7.

Stuie Careless and Seb Slaughter came and went rather quick and only scored 1 run between them in there partnerships with Micky. Stuie was caught on 1 and Seb was out first ball for a golden duck. The 150 target now was looking to be even harder with Boreham on 127-9.

The old guard were then at the crease. Ken Greenaway and Micky Rayner then pushed the Boreham score and were threatening to get to the 150 mark and they didn’t disappoint. Micky scored an unbeaten 31 and Ken got 2 in there partnership of 23. Boreham finished on 150-10, only loosing by an eventual 55 runs. Good performance all round by the whole team in bat and field there were a lot of positives.

Springfield’s star bowler was A.Akthar who finished on figures of 6-33. With Iestyn claiming the last wicket to get 1-1 of 3 balls and D.Butt ended his 12 over’s on 3-31.

MVP: Micky Rayner for his 31* and his 5-38. See you can win it not just by heading the ball.
