Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club 1st XI v Little Baddow II on Sat 18 May 2013 at 13:30
Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club Lost by 157 Runs.
Match report
The First eleven, at home to Little Baddow II suffered a 157 run defeat after the Baddow late order staged a dramatic recovery from 150 for 5, to reach 269 for 8 by the end of their innings. Captain Ed Lambert Clarke took three wickets in his twelve overs (12-2-63-3) and Micky Rayner, called up from the seconds, finished with two wickets for 41 runs from eight overs (8-1-41-2) and was also able to invent a new form of long barrier in the field which involved using his head to stop the ball, a technique that was accidental though effective. Ken Greenaway took his best catch of the season and also took a wicket, while Peter Kettley took his first wicket of the season. Liam Watts had a nervous start with the ball but was the most economical with one wicket for 39 runs from 9 overs including two maidens (9-2-39-1).
After polishing off Lambert-Clarke’s record breakingly assembled twenty minute tea, Boreham made a good start in chasing down the total with Kettley’s terrific knock of 55 putting the team in the hunt. Watts also looked in good nick but was bowled by one that stayed low, out for 19. After the loss of Watts a swift collapse followed and the team was only able to reach 112. Rayner was MVP, putting his body on the line in a shining example of commitment to cricket! Kettley also had a great game clearly influenced by his Persil sponsored new team kit (official replicas available in the club shop).
