Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club - Scorebook Guidence

I have decided to write a section on the score book as in 2016 the 2nd XI score book has been far from a passable standard. The score book is one of the most important parts of our game the world over, if we did not use one then who knows whats going on. Even today in the world of international cricket scorers still use pen and paper as a back up to modern technology.

Here is what is required to be recorded in our score books to make my life easier when reporting results to the league and putting our games on our website.

This applies to BOTH Innings not just our own:

Match number, Home and Away teams, Venue, Date, Toss winner, Innings of and Type of Match are all a must.

The following areas need to be recorded for both Innings:

Batting Order, 4's and 6's scored, How Outs, Bowlers Name and Score.

If a player is Caught, Stumped or Run Out then I need the players names who were responsible for these.

Our Innings ONLY: Ball Counts for our batsman to work out strike rates. Unless you a non playing score therefore you may do ball counts for both innings.

Fall of Wickets or FOW's, Record the score and the batsman's out and in numbers.

Byes, Leg Byes, Wides and No Balls, these are to be recorded too.

Batsman's Total and Extra's Total to be added together BEFORE any score is declared to be the final score. Nine out of ten times a run or two gets missed so this need's to be done first before confirming a score. A few seasons ago Chris Empson did not do this and we were robbed out of a batting point due to him just taking the score from the tally, not adding it up correctly.

Bowlers Names, these are to be recorded with a first initial not just a surname, for example if Chris and George are playing and it just says O'Halloran then how do I know who is who??

Final Bowling figures to be recorded, for example: 10-5-19-3. Do not just leave blanks if there was no maidens or wickets. On the 18th July Mike Bruder bowled a maiden but it was just left blank so was missed off the stats.

MVP, Drops and Sporting Marks to be recorded in the Notes and General Remarks box.

It is up to the captain's to make sure the book is filled out correctly if I am not there, obviously I cant score home and away on the same day. The captain needs to nominate some one to ensure the book is filled out correctly.

After a match when the books are taken home I have to perform a service for the club to the league. As well as sending sporting marks of I have to contact the league to make the following known:

If a team is at home then I have to use the book to upload our score to their website. If we a away then I have to email a league representive with a report of the match outlining performances, players who score 30+ and/or players who take 3 or more wickets. With out our books being done correctly then their is a chance I can not forfill theses requirements and we lose league points.

So please from now on take heed of what I have written, I am quite happy to help members learn how to do the book if they want to have help but we can not have a repeat of the last two weeks.
