Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club 1st XI v Danbury on Sat 06 Jul 2019 at 13:00
Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club Won by 21 Runs.

Match report First the sad news.. we have officially withdrawn the 2s from the league... now the great news! We WON today!!

Losing the toss yet again we were put into bat, things started terrible with both Ken Greenaway and David Stanton getting out cheaply with only a handful of runs on the board.

This though bought in Dominic John Kempster and our latest acquisition Sam Courtley. A steady partnership followed until Dom miss timed a shot to mid off to be out on 20. Sam in the meantime had made his way to the twenties. Owen Cooper was next up and between himself and Sam they built another steady partnership. Sam went on to make a debut 50 before being caught and bowled.

With the score ticking along nicely and four wickets down, the next batsman in was Jafar Gamat who decided to to hang around and struck a 21 ball 50! Owen was quietly gettin on until he was run out following a miss judgement on 15, but between Owen and Jafr they put on 69 for the 5th wicket. (156-5). Kia Cheif was next in... and soon next out then Kai Creswell came to the crease and with Jafr wanting to bash the bowlers some more did so in scintilating fashion and Kai holding an end up they put on another 50 runs before Kai was bowled. (209-8)

The last two wickets fell with only a further 6 runs being scored, last of which was Jafr on a suprising yet shocking 107 to finish our innings on 215 all out.. (apart from me...again lol)

Teas were served and we entered the field knowing a few players needed to make a move early. As like us Danbury got of to a shocker losting two wickets in the opening four overs. Both Jonny Need and Simon Moore were cleaned up by shooters from Sam Courtley. Some resilience came from Ravi Rupal (45) by Sam was not done by removing both him (in his second spell) and the opener (in his first spell).

Dom got in on the act with a superb catch and also picked up a wicket for himself, that of the big hittin Ben Hayden on 30.

But the day belonged to Jafr as he collected five wickets to wrap up an amazing day for Boreham after all the termoil of the past few weeks. Danbury surcummed with three balls of their innings to spare and also to finish with figures of 5-32 from 8.3 overs.

Sam finished on 4-26 from 10 and Dom 1-35 from 10 respectively.

All in all a great team performance and a welcome new face to the club also. Next week we play CSK at Writtle College Agricultural Arena. Lets try to carry in on lads!!
