Match report INDOOR RESULT, SUNDAY 11TH OCTOBER 2015 MATCH REPORT

Wethersfield 154-4 TIED Boreham Reserves 154-4 (7pts-7pts)

Boreham Reserves headed into this match knowing that defeat would spell a record league streak of 22 in a row. Wethersfield set a daunting 154-4 from their 12 overs Trevor Money opening our bowling with Neil Collins.

TM dropped Chris Gliddon on his second ball and was a costly drop as we will read later on. NC did not make such an impact but having a bad shoulder did not help matters. Stuart Careless today was keeping and I did a half decent job only letting a couple of byes go. TM got his 2 wickets in his first spell of 2 overs where as NC did not.

Jonathan Riches who was obviously running late then came onto the field of play after what he calls a "an argument about who showers first"!! As excuses go on being 15 minutes late this is a new one on me!!.... Back to the match.... George Ohalloran making his debut in the BDICL was quick of the mark, some wayward bowls but a cracking wicket taken. Carl Hulk Chatters then came into the match with his unorthodox attack, he claimed his one and only wicket (ct&bowled) in a spell of 3 overs that to be honest he should have had three. GOH and CC were unlucky to have a ball called "no ball" by some very confused umpires after the ball had been caught by GOH of CC's bowling.

With TM and NC finishing up matters and thus ending there stints and closing Wethersfield's innings there was one lone figure holding the opposition together. Chris Gliddon (previously mentioned being dropped on 0) was still at the crease 12 overs later and 76 not out too. A very talented young man if not lucky after having 5 lives today.

Bowling Figs:
TM 3-0-38-2
NC 3-0-47-0
GOH 3-0-32-1
CC 3-0-31-1 (1xct)

Opening our batting in our daunting challenge to secure a victory were TM and NC and they both performed and got us off to a good start, Both TM and NC retired on 25 each with some lusty blows between them and quick running of 3s between them.

Next up was GOH, 7 balls, a six and then out, never mind GOH you did better than JR who well faced 4 balls then got out for 0. CC was in after the demise of GOH and was giving it his all with his club and ability to score runs from bad shots. Any bowler facing him would think hes an easy wicket to get, but boy were they wrong.

I was last up replacing JR and with NC and TM looking on to see how quickly I would get out were in for quite a shock. Now I make it no secret that I am not the greatest indoors at batting and I rarely get runs. I got told by NC to "go big or go home" got his answer as I hit out clubbing 2 sixes and a flurry of singles in the process of making 17 and to to push the score along with CC as his handy partner. I was out with a faint edge caught behind which I think only the keeper and I heard as the umpire asked me where I was going as I walked off the pitch to claps from Wethersfield for walking.

NC then came back but only made a further eight runs and was caught on 33 so it all came down to TM and CC to steer us home. Needing eight runs from 6 balls TM and CC made a good start with 2 leg byes and running a 3 the runs required was reduced to 4 from 3 balls then a dot nooooo!!! and a single.

So it came down to the last ball with two runs needed for victory.. TM on strike he plastered the ball, CC and TM ran to what they thought was a curtain victory but there was a sting in the tail (well two but I will get to the other one in a minute). The ball touched the netting thus making it a dead ball and one run scored. A rare tied match happened but we were still elated with the result as long as it was not a defeat. TM finished on 33 not out with CC getting 24 not out.

154-4 to both teams after the close of play... what could possibly be the other sting in the tail?? Well after checking the scorecard as I always to after a match I found that CC had actually scored 25 not 24 and if this had been correctly written down and added up NC and TM would have been in at the end together and therefore (no offence to CC) we should have won the match. I bang on about scoring and this just underlines what I mean sometimes. But an all round good performance by our 6 hearty players to push Wethersfield to a last ball grandstand finish.

Batting Figs (In case you missed them in the report)
