Terling v Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club Friendly on Sun 08 Sep 2013 at 13:30
Boreham & Roxwell Cricket Club Lost by 16 Runs.

Match report Well its that time of the year again, the last match of the season was upon us. Boreham went into the game looking for a victory but as like many games gone by we had to hold our heads up high in defeat. Although this was the closest match of the season as just 16 runs separated the teams on the day but a lot of spirit showed through and the building blocks were now all but set after a torrid year of crushing defeats.

Before the match there was drama, apart from a very eventful Saturday night that one member of the team would probably want to forget, Jon Riches decided to pull out 2 minutes before we were supposed to meet at the club. This left us with 10 players but Terling helped us by having a roll on/roll off system of sub fielders for us to make the match a fair one.

Boreham and Terling had already sorted out who was batting/bowling and by mutual consent Boreham bowled first. Opening the bowling were the Davies pairing of Ryan and Graham. Ryan bowled his first 5 allotted over’s for a stunning 14 runs while daddy at the other end was finding it tough going with some rather unfortunate and in Chris Empson’s case painful finger breaking fielding. Graham bowled 0-50 of 6 over’s while Ryan who was unlucky not to take a wicket after Steve Deal took a catch of a no ball ended on 0-14 of 5.

The breakthrough was found in KC’s first over on when he bowled Tim Harrison on 28 and then 2 over’s later KC picked up wickets two and three, firstly removing Alex Taylor for 26 then clean bowling Liam Humphries for a golden duck. Terling were rocked as they had lost 3 of there star batsman with the score on 96. Adam Wilding on the other hand was standing his ground and staying put at the other end building his innings passing 30 as the wickets fell.

Just an over later Chris “the broken man” Empson got in on the act this time having Ollie Palmer caught by Ryan Davies on 0 thus reducing Terling to a shakey 97-4. Chris bowled four over’s with a broken finger finishing on 1-12.

Adam Wilding then took over the run scoring and accelerated past 50 with a series of boundaries. But with Adam on 70 the key man was then clean bowled by the rather shakey and very hung over Stuie Careless who decided to take his leg stump out of the ground. Terling 148-5.

Ryan Davies came back on and took 2 quick fire wickets as he then had his way as he bowled Andy Hodgekiss on 10 and then had Ollie Dawson caught by a sub fielder (Liam Humphries) for a first ball duck. Terling 149-7.

Stuie Careless was to have the last say and he took his second wicket of the game of Alex Jagota on 10 to finish his spell on 2-20. Terling 177-8.

The match came to a close with Ryan finishing his spell on 2-20 of 8 over’s. There were also three cameos with Liam Watts 0-9 of 3, Pete Harness 0-28 of 3 and Carl Chatters 0-8 of 4 with two maidens in his first 2 over’s.

The score of 177 looked to be too much for the batting line up we had but us here at Boreham never give up and we had a jolly good go at it.

Opening the Boreham attack were Liam Watts and KC. KC was first to fall with the score on 13 as he was caught by an unknown Terling fielder on 1. Boreham 13-1.

Graham Davies was next up to support Liam and that he did. Liam had batted his way to 31 when the 2nd wicket fell that of Graham when he was bowled on 7 by Alex Jagota, their partnership of 31 pushed Boreham onto 44-2 of 8 over’s.

Five overs went by with Liam and new man Owen Mosse at the crease batting the ball around trying to get Boreham on terms with the required run rate. Unfortunately Liam was the 3rd wicket to fall when he was bowled with a ball that stayed very low from J.Atkinson and then 3 balls later Pete Harness who incidentally was using most of Stuie‘s stuff scored 4 and then fell the same way as Liam did. Boreham 67-4.

Carl Chatters was next up replacing Pete Harness and he found the going OK. He and Owen had built a partnership of 21 when Owen who was controlling Chatters like a master got himself bowled on 25 by Ollie Dawson. Owen on returning to the pavilion said that it was so easy to score runs but yet that one ball was needed to end his innings. Boreham 88-5.

The came a surprise fan to cheer us on in the one Kunjan Jasani with his cider cans too. Obviously itching to play we asked the Terling skipper if he could bat for us and it was a resounding yes from him, so we had 11 batsman when it looked like we would struggle with 10.

Carl Chatters’s new partner was the defensive minded Steve Deal who stayed in while Carl batted the ball around the park. Steve took 20 balls to get of the mark and onto 1 but Chatters was turning up the wick by blasting the ball about to all parts of the ground. Carl was then bowled on 16 by J.Atkinson with the low sun being a factor in his demise too. Steve and Chatters put on 24 and pushed the Boreham tally too 112-6.

The next two wickets fell for only 7 runs. The first of the two was Steve Deal being bowled on 1 by Connor Dudley thus bring Ryan Davies to the crease and the second one was Chris Empson getting run out on 3 by Alex Taylor. Boreham were now on 122-8 with 11 over’s remaining and only 3 batsman left.

Stuie Careless who was still reeling from the last 24 hours of his life was the 10th man in and in all fairness batted pretty well and made a good 9th wicket stand of 22 with Ryan Davies. Stuie was out in the 33rd over swinging wildly to a straight ball from Connor Dudley but with the second last pair pushing Boreham onto 143-9 there was a strange yet true sniff of a victory.

Kunjan Jasani our lucky fan was last man in and he pushed the score on with 2 lusty blows, a huge six into the horsy fields (Hopefully Noodle was OK) and a straight four too, but in all fairness the game was lost to us but it was good to see the guy back in whites. Kunjan was bowled on 18 by Ryan Dawson when he came down the wicket attacking and Boreham ended on 161 all out.

A great match from all 22 players who turned up and played, a cracking tea too but I must remember to bring balls for the match and also that I cant pay the opposition skipper for teas with lottery scratch cards either.

There was an undecided vote on MVP with the whole team being awarded it by their skipper Carl Chatters and it summed up how far we have all come since the start of May.
